What's New

It was a shockingly good time when grown-ups took over Orlando Science Center for Science Night Live on Saturday, Feb. 22. Guests celebrated Thomas Edison’s birthday with Edison and Nikola Tesla impersonators; witnessed the electrifying “High Voltage” live show; gazed at Jupiter and its moons from the Crosby Observatory; and more!

Enjoy All the Science Center Has to Offer For Only $5 Thanks to the Walmart Foundation

Sunday, March 2,
10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 24, 2014) — Orlando Science Center, in partnership with the Walmart Foundation, has announced that the next Walmart $5 Day will be Sunday, March 2, 2014.

On that day, guests can enjoy exhibits, giant-screen and 3D films, and live programs for the significantly discounted price of $5. General admission fees are usually $19 for adults and $13 for youth (ages 3-11). For many, this event presents the opportunity to experience the Science Center for the first time.

Discover the latest traveling exhibit, “Zoom into Nano”; see the newest 3D film “Mysteries of the Unseen World 3D”; catch the giant-screen spectacular “Flight of the Butterflies”; and experience four floors of hands-on exhibits and live activities that will engage your family and inspire their curiosity.

In our newest traveling exhibit, “Zoom into Nano,” discover how scientists view and make things that are too small to see. Look inside a butterfly wing, build a carbon nanotube or stretch a molecule. Learn how scientists are using nanotechnology to develop new tools and materials that may affect our lives today and in the future.

Welcome to 2014! As I look ahead to the many possibilities of the new year, I'm compelled to also look back on the achievements of the previous 12 months. We have been busy at the Orlando Science Center and the past year saw some incredible milestones.

In 2013, the Science Center was visited by over 413,000 people – the greatest attendance since the grand opening of the "new" building in 1997. Membership households swelled to over 8,000 – a record for us, encompassing over 34,000 parents, grandparents and children.

I'm thrilled by these numbers, but the figures I’m most proud of are the 70,000 individuals who enjoyed free or reduced price experiences like summer camps, field trips, family science nights or exhibit visits – thanks to our generous Community Request Fund donors.

A new addition to this effort, the "Science for All" family membership was piloted in 2013 to reach out to struggling families by providing them with 12 months of engagement at the Science Center at a greatly reduced price. Thanks to a handful of dedicated corporate partners, 140 families have now joined the Science Center family and that number continues to grow.
