The Festival of Chocolate Brings Fun Competitions to the Orlando Science Center Judged by a Panel of Local Celebrities, Chefs and Self-Proclaimed Chocoholics

“Best Of” Chocolate Indulgence Competitions on Saturday, March 6, 2010

WHAT: Who’s the best? That’s the question to be answered at the Festival of Chocolate’s “Best of” Chocolate Indulgence competitions.

Central Florida’s only all-inclusive chocolate competition has recruited our region's most masterful chocolatiers to showcase and recognize the best in seven categories of chocolate creations. Categories include brownies, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, confections and truffles.

Each category will be judged be judged by a panel that will include a local celebrity, an ward-winning pastry chef, and a self-proclaimed chocoholic. The chocoholic will be chosen from guests who purchased advance tickets to the event online at www.festivalofchocolate.com.

JUDGES: Celebrity judges include Bo Outlaw from the Orlando Magic, Moira from the Phillips Phile on Real Radio 104.1 FM, Aixa Diaz from WESH- Channel 2 News, Tom Sorrells from WKMG - Channel 6 News, Ybeth Bruzual from CF News 13, and Sabrina Fein from WOFL- FOX 35 News.

Pastry chef judges will include Rosen Shingle Creek Executive Pastry Chef and 2009 Team USA Pastry Captain David Ramirez, Universal Orlando Executive Pastry Chef Mike Harman and Orlando Sentinel Food Editor Heather McPherson among others.

4:00 p.m. - Best of Chocolate Truffle
4:30 p.m. - Best of Show

There are also cookie stacking and ice cream eating competitions open for participation the public (children and adults). The Festival of Chocolate’s displays, demonstrations, workshops and activities will be available to guests from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7.

WHY:
The Festival of Chocolate will stimulate the mind and the tastebuds of chocoholics of all ages. It is the region's largest chocolate shopping, tasting, educational and interactive experience. With four floors of chocolate, the event features more than 30 vendors with everything from truffles to cakes, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, ice cream and more! The Festival also features demonstrations by renowned pastry chefs, adult and child workshops, a chocolate museum and information on chocolate’s health and lifestyle benefits.

COST: Admission to the Festival of Chocolate is included with the general admission to the Orlando Science Center, which is $17 for adults and $12 for kids (ages 3-11). Guests are also welcome to experience Frogs!, Science in Toyland, and all the other Science Center exhibits, live programs and giant-screen films, including Amazon.

CHOCOLATE CHIPS: Chocolate Chips have the value of $1 and are the ONLY currency accepted by vendors during The Festival of Chocolate. Chocolate Chips can be purchased at the time of ticket purchase and throughout multiple booth locations at the event with CASH, MASTERCARD OR VISA.

ADVANCE TICKETS: Advanced ticket purchases to the Chocolate Festival will give guests three “Chocolate Chips.” Each Advance Purchased Adult Ticket is entered into a drawing for a spot as a "Chocolate Judge" in one of the Chocolate Competitions.
