Orlando Science Center Welcomes New Trustees!

Eleven New Faces Named to the Board of Trustees
ALSO: Executive Committee Reassigned

ORLANDO, Fla. (July 25, 2012) - The Orlando Science Center has announced 11 new members to its Board of Trustees for the 2012-2015 term. Those elected are as follows:

Waymon Armstrong
President and CEO | Engineering & Computer Simulations

Mr. Armstrong’s firm is dedicated to utilizing PC-based game technology in an advanced distributed-learning environment. A graduate of Valencia College and the University of Central Florida, he’s currently developing new learning technologies for war fighters and first responders. He was named as a 2007 and 2009 finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year from Ernst and Young for the state of Florida. In 2010, he was awarded the SBA Region, State and National Small Business Person of the Year award.

Sara Brady
President | Sara Brady Public Relations, Inc.

Ms. Brady was named one of Orlando Magazine’s Top 50 Most Powerful People in 2011 for the third year in a row. A member of the Public Relations Society of America, she handles reputation management as well as corporate and crisis communications at the firm she opened in 2010. She previously spent five years as Vice President of Public Affairs and Community Relations with Bright House Networks, Central Florida Division.

Jeff Buhler
Executive Vice President of Consumer Services | Massey Service Inc.

Mr. Buhler holds degrees in religion and psychology from the University of Florida and holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College. Currently, he serves as Executive Vice President of Consumer Services for Massey Services, a $130 million company with 90 locations across the Southeast. He is a guest lecturer at the University Of Central Florida College Of Hospitality Management with a focus on strategic planning and engineering and the Rollins College Business School in the areas of operations management and organized behavior.

Min K. Cho
Associate | Holland & Knight

Mr. Cho practices in the areas of complex civil litigation and white collar criminal defense. He has a diverse practice representing businesses and individuals in matters involving commercial disputes, contract litigation, business torts, product liability and employment law to name a few. He is Martindale-Hubbell AV Rated, was declared a Rising Star in Florida Super Lawyers magazine the past three years and a Florida Legal Elite Up & comer in Florida Trend Magazine in 2010.

Douglas Gearity, M.D.
Founder/Partner/Lead Doctor | Women’s Center of Orlando

Dr. Gearity specializes in obstetrics, gynecology and infertility treatments. He provides various minimally invasive surgical procedures. He earned his undergraduate and medical degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., served his internship in Bridgeport, Conn. and completed his residency at Orlando Regional Healthcare System.

Michael Harding
Partner | Central Florida, Deloitte & Touche LLP

Mr. Harding has been with Deloitte & Touche LLP for 38 years and presently serves as the senior partner of the Orlando service area. He has led a number of engagements serving some of Central Florida’s largest and most successful companies, as well as start-ups, and has deep business experience across many industries including financial services, real estate, technology, hospitality and leisure.

Les Kramer
General Manager | Advanced Materials Professional Services, LLC

Dr. Kramer, P.E. has 39 years of experience as a materials scientist and engineer, program manager and entrepreneur in the defense, power generation/renewables and commercial industries. He formed Advanced Materials Professional Services, LLC with the business objective of critical materials science technology transfer. In the past, Dr. Kramer was Director of Group Technical Staff at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control in Orlando, Fla. In 2007, he won the University of Florida “Golden Gator” for 10 years of integrated product and process design industrial sponsorship.

Stan Patterson
Inventor, Certified Prosthetist and Founder of Prosthetic & Orthotic Associates (POA)

Mr. Patterson is a nationally recognized ABC certified prosthetist, known for his revolutionary strides in prosthetic design. He graduated from the University of North Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in education and earned his certification in prosthetics from the American Board for Certification in 1994. A highly respected speaker at national prosthetic and orthotic conferences, he has served as an adjunct professor for Otto Bock Healthcare and TEC Interface Systems. He was honored by the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists as the recipient of the 2007 Clinical Commitment Award at their 33rd annual meeting in San Francisco, Calif.

John Slot
Vice President | The North Highland Company

Mr. Slot has over 20 years of consulting and industry experience specializing in strategic planning and execution, facilitation, process improvement, change management, financial analysis, business operations, and performance improvement. He is a member of the American Chamber in Shanghai as well as serves his Florida community as an executive board advisor to myregion.org and as a past member of the Central Florida Transportation Corridors "Task Force.”

Debbie Totten
Vice President of Brand & Creative Resources | Starwood Vacation Ownership

Ms. Totten oversees the development and execution of marketing communications for Westin, Sheraton and St. Regis. For more than 20 years, she has specialized in building and leading creative teams that produce highly targeted marketing messages, which effectively leverage the attributes and support the core values of some of today’s most well-known real estate hospitality brands.

Nelson Ying Jr.
Vice President | China Pavilion Operating Corporation

Mr. Ying Jr. serves as the Vice President at the China Pavilion Operating Corporation, where he focuses on finance, investment, research and development, as well as merchandising and food and beverage operations. In addition to leading the China Pavilion, he manages his family’s charitable foundation. He has lived in Central Florida since 1985 and attended the University of Pennsylvania where he studied international cultures, economics, business and finance.

In addition, an 11 member executive committee was elected at the annual Board of Trustees meeting in June and will serve in this capacity for the 2012 fiscal year. Stewart Clark, Vice President Discovery Cove, was elected Board Chair. Joining Clark as organization officers are Scott Wilson, Audit Partner RSM McGladrey (Vice-Chair); Michel Champagne, Vice President and General Manager of Central Operations Bright House Networks (Secretary); and Renato Barbon, Senior Vice President Finance Olive Garden (Immediate Past Chair).

The following names will also serve as executive committee members: Dennis Lind, Vice President Design & Engineering Walt Disney Parks & Resorts (Development Chair); Terry Torres, Director of Commercial Services Orlando Utilities Commission (Board Governance Chair); Oscar Anderson, Partner Southern Strategy Group (Advocacy); Cheryl Lester, Regional Director Walmart (At-Large); Bob Finfrock, Owner/President Finfrock Industries (At-Large); and Sam Miller, Esq., Akerman Senterfitt (Board Council).

The Orlando Science Center is one of the most popular cultural institutions in Central Florida, which promotes learning and growth through hands-on experience and play to an average of 350,000 guests each year. The interactive exhibits, live programs, giant screen films and observatory make the Science Center a haven for discovery and fun. The Science Center also provides educational opportunities outside its walls, including field trips and outreach activities at schools and community centers.
