Motivating students to stretch the capacity of their unlimited imagination, Orlando Science Center challenges students to transform ordinary and found objects into an artistic kinetic sculpture. Awards will be given based on the complexity of motion, best use of found materials, mechanical innovation, and artistic expression.

Dear Participants,The Orlando Science Center invites you to participate in Kinetic Challenge, a science competition geared to 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Kinetic Challenge allows your students to use their creativity and science knowledge to win money for their science class or club! This competition fosters teamwork and hands-on learning, while motivating students to stretch the capacity of their imaginations by transforming ordinary and found objects into a kinetic sculpture. Kinetic Challenge focuses on Florida Next Generation Sunshine State and Common Core Standards including energy, force and motion and the nature of science.
Please share this opportunity with all the science teachers in your school. Specific goals and guidelines for Kinetic Challenge can be downloaded above. Remember that participation in this event is free and there is absolutely no cost to you or the school to register.

Keeping things simple would be counter-productive in this competition!
The 2013 Kinetic Challenge took place Saturday, Feb. 16 as 40 teams comprised of 5th–8th graders competed for prizes including $500 for Best in Fair!
Participants transformed ordinary and found objects into an artistic kinetic sculpture, also called a Rube Goldberg machine.
