Mission: Nutrition III at the Orlando Science Center

Learn about healthcare careers and medical simulation, Premiere for new “Careers for Life” Exhibit
Saturday, April 17, 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

What: Mission: Nutrition is back for the third year to highlight the important of health and wellness in our everyday lives. This year’s event will continue to emphasize healthcare careers as well as spotlighting advancements in medical technology and patient simulation. Mission: Nutrition III will see the “Rise of the Machines.”

New: The event will also host the premiere of Careers for Life, an interactive exhibit spotlighting growing opportunities in the healthcare field. The exhibit features multiple kiosks with testimonials from actual nurses, therapists, and paramedics. It also uses basic anatomical displays to show the connection between the medical professional and their specialty. The Careers for Life exhibit is funded by a grant from the US Department of Labor, in partnership with Seminole State College and supported by in-kind contributions and assistance from WorkForce Central Florida and the Partners for a Healthy Community.

Bright House Networks Scores a Hole-In-One for Science!

Foursomes Still Available for April 15 Tournament

(Orlando, FL) - More than 200 golfers are putting for progress during the 27th Annual Cosmic Golf Challenge at Champions Gate Golf Resort on Thursday, April 15. Sponsored by Bright House Networks and Cisco Systems, the event expects to raise more than $100,000 for educational programs at the Orlando Science Center.

Various corporate teams and individual players will come together to swing for science over 18 holes of best ball tournament play on two separate courses. Hole sponsors, buying “mulligans” and raffle prizes will also generate revenue and Don Reid Ford and Mullinax Ford have both donated cars for hole-in-one prizes on each course. Players will enjoy lunch, dinner, an awards ceremony, drawings, contests and prizes.

Tiny garage is now a centerpiece for All Aboard on Level 2

A beloved fixture of KidsTown returns with a new paint job and a new home! The Super Service Center is now delighting little mechanics on level 2 inside All Aboard. Step into a pretend auto shop equipped with all the tools needed to perform maintenance on a kid-sized car mounted on a lift.

This exhibit's hands-on activities encourage cooperative play and stimulate the development of fundamental skills in young children. Kids will have fun sorting, matching and problem-solving as they select tools, replace parts and fill work orders. The Super Service Center has a received a tune-up, including a new paint job for the little auto that’s the centerpiece of the display.

All Aboard inspires your little one’s imagination with a series of vehicles just their size! No destination is too far. Child-sized models of trains, planes, automobiles, even the space shuttle, provide the mode of transportation - creativity provides the road map. All Aboard is a great way for kids to learn about transportation, as well as geography.

Last Sunday March 14, 2010, the Science Center hosted it’s third Walmart Foundation $5 Day. Guests got full access to our exhibits, films and programs for only $5. We thank the Walmart Foundation for their generosity.

Central Florida Families can enjoy the Orlando Science Center for $5/person

Walmart Foundation $5 Day Returns on Sunday, March 14 only - 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

ORLANDO, FL - (March 9, 2010) - The next “Walmart Foundation $5 Day” at the Orlando Science Center will be Sunday, March 14. Thanks to the generous support of the Walmart Foundation, all guests to the Science Center on that day will enjoy exhibits, films and live programs for the significantly discounted price of $5. General admission fees are usually $17 for adults and $12 for kids (ages 3-11).

“Walmart Foundation and Walmart Stores continually look for opportunities to give back locally,” said Steven Daniel, Walmart Market Manager for Central Florida. “We have been very pleased with the response of the last two Walmart Foundation $5 Days at the Orlando Science Center. The previous events provided families with a full day of engaging fun at a greatly reduced price. These are the types of community programs we are proud to sponsor for our Central Florida neighbors.”
