Accounting Clerk I

Full time benefited position. Responsible for reporting attendance and financial information as delegated from the accounting manager. 

  • Code daily sales to the correct departments
  • Produce attendance and revenue reports daily
  • Count cash receipts and take cash inventory
  • Support and back up accounting functions within the department
  • Report cashier discrepancies to department supervisors
  • Prepare trend reports on a weekly basis
  • Prepare and compile data for month-end reporting
  • Responsible for logging ticket requests, printing tickets, and checking tickets received by guest services
  • Post journal entries for weekly cash sales, consignments, and other sources of revenue
  • Create custom reports for special projects


Education or Certifications: High School diploma. AA degree (Accounting) preferred.

Work Experience: 2 years experience in an accounting office environment..

Required Skills:  Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, have good analytical/mathematical skills, work independently, and good communication skills. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.

 

 

Exhibit Developer and Project Manager

Full time benefited position. Leads research and development of new exhibitions and special exhibit projects. Responsible for design and development of new exhibitions and special exhibit projects. Responsible for the research, development, testing and fabrication of OSC exhibits. Works with the Director of Visitor Experience and Manager of Exhibits throughout the design process to define goals and objectives and meet Orlando Science Center (OSC) expectations of high quality. Develops and maintains project budgets; works with the Director of Visitor Experience and Manager of Exhibits to determine timelines and staff requirements for each project.

Monitors progress and delays with project schedules to ensure timely deadlines. Works with Senior Director of Visitor Experience to develop proposals for new galleries and exhibitions. Works in conjunction with Director of Visitor Experience to evaluate work to ensure that exhibitions meet stated objectives. Contributes to the creation and implementation of the strategic plan content. Works as a liaison to outside exhibit fabrication firms and design/development firms for production and fabrication, when necessary.  

EDUCATION: Undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering, architecture, museum studies or other relevant area(s).

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years experience in museum exhibition development, management and production. Experience leading teams of contributing partners. Research, writing and editing skills. Graphic design skills. Must show a considerable degree of initiative and have excellent interpersonal and networking skills.

REQUIRED SKILLS:  

  • Be imaginative and creative
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Be positive and clear in promoting and explaining ideas
  • Clearly and professionally present ideas and designs to partners and colleagues during meetings via face-to-face, phone, and email.
  • AutoCAD or similar computer graphical design software.
  • Demonstrate solid design sense through each project that includes space, measurement, form, volume, and color
  • Take design direction and critiques from the partners and colleagues, implement to create a stronger, better end result.
  • Operate effectively under time constraints and meet deadlines.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, both alone and in teams.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Strong background in material selection and application.
  • Be aware of relevant health and safety issues with design implementations. Adhere to ADA requirements when necessary
  • A valid Florida driver’s license is required


PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience working in/with museums or in an informal education setting  
  • Ability to design in Software such as Vectorworks or Adobe Photoshop
  • Must be detail oriented, able to prioritize tasks and able to work under pressure with multiple deadlines
  • Large format graphic design experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of the Macintosh Operating System
  • Background/experience in museum exhibit design, industrial design, or architectural design
  • Past experience with fabrication techniques with metal, wood and plastics

 

 

Animal Husbandry Lead Technician

Full time benefited position. Provide the daily care of all OSC animals, and the maintenance and repair of animal support systems within the Nature Works exhibition; present science programming to guests within the NatureWorks exhibit. Act as liaison between Nature Works staff and Manager. Supervise volunteers and manage their time and assignments. Experience with aquariums and closed aquatic systems and reptiles is required. Experience with amphibians and invertebrate species is beneficial. This position requires weekend and some evening work.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare and feed daily ration of frozen, fresh and dry commercial foods.
  • Maintain exhibit aesthetics to departmental standards through regular cleaning of habitats and windows, hydro-cleaning gravel, cleaning overflow screens and removing debris.
  • Present public programs to diverse groups.
  • Identify common diseases.
  • Administer treatments with the help of the Nature Works Manager.
  • Participate in departmental and special events both at the science center and off property.
  • Assist in renovating exhibits to incorporate new filters, pumps, lighting, etc., and to rebuild habitats when needed.
  • Communicate updates in an efficient and professional manner to the Manager of NatureWorks.
  • Train staff, volunteers and others as necessary as it relates to work and animals in assigned section.
  • Must represent the Orlando Science Center in a professional manner with all guests and staff.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, ecology, natural resources management, education, or a related field or equivalent education plus experience.
  • The equivalent of two years experience in a zoo, aquarium, museum, park or a similar facility including performing, preparing or coordinating interpretive educational programming.


PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience with exhibit fabrication, veterinary/medical care and snorkeling is preferred.

 

 

Hospitality/House Manger

Part time position. Position Summary: Provide superior customer service while maintaining a safe and secure environment for OSC guests and team members. This position is expected to be on the floor 90% of the shift during public operating hours.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Open and close the building as per established procedures.
  • Continuously walk through the facility making minor repairs and replenishing exhibits.
  • Hourly walk through in the parking garage documenting and / or reporting to appropriate parties any needs or concerns.
  • Interact with OSC guests using the Customer First Approach and obtain feedback on the guest visit.
  • Monitor daily operation ensuring OSC programs begin on time, front of house positions appropriately staffed and public areas remain clean.
  • Accurately document shift activities in the House Managers log and note exhibit failures, maintenance personnel responding for repair and exhibits on the floor that are tagged.
  • Communicate exhibit failure, facility maintenance challenges and safety concerns to the Director of Facilities in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in emergency first aid and fire evacuations.
  • Prevent improper use of exhibits and the physical building.
  • Assist in locating lost children / parent.
  • Monitor crowd density in public areas.
  • Support Shipping and Receiving / Mailroom / Copy Center in the absence of the Clerk.
  • Support other teams within the organization with superior Internal Customer Service.
  • Other duties assigned by Director of Facilities and or CFO.

 

Education or Certifications: High School diploma or equivalent

Work Experience: Some experience in the customer service field.

Required Skills: Customer service experience, security or related field and certified in CPR and emergency first aid useful but not necessary.

Physical Requirements: Up to 30 hour work week. Available all hours, and shifts, ability to do a lot standing, walking and climbing stairs. Ability to lift 30 pounds, ability to push/pull a certain amount of weight.

 

 

Cleaner/Surface Specialist

PT position. The Surface Specialist is a cleaning position that ensures all exhibits and their components are clean and sanitary.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Clean all exhibit surfaces.
  • Maintain exhibit hall scenery, props, sets and other thematic elements such as banners, wall hangings, and graphics that comprise the scenery for the exhibit hall.  
  • High clean thematic elements such as tops of built-in structures and scenery and faux foliage.
  • Clean all supporting elements such as text panel acrylic covers, benches, stools, chairs.  
  • Clean free-standing manipulatives such as blocks, and puzzle pieces.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Housekeeping or Hospitality experience.
  • Able to safely work from a ladder or lift.

Preferred Skills:

  • Able to operate a scissors lift.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Moderate lifting (min 25lbs)
  • Pushing, carrying, bending/kneeling.
  • Highly mobile; high level of walking and standing required.
  • Ability to operate and work from a high lift

 

 

Movie Operator

Part time position. Responsible for operating CineDome and the Digital Adventure Theater automation system, presenting shows and assisting visitors in and out of the CineDome and the Digital Adventure Theatre, including, but not limited to, taking tickets, answering questions, and light administrative work. High School Graduate or equivalent, some college preferred.  Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods of time.

 

 

 

Educator

Part time position. The daily functions of this position consist of but are not limited to: Engaging and educating school groups, scouts, campers and teachers about various sciences with the use of demonstrations and hands-on activities in an informal setting. The Educator will deliver educational content in one or more of the following ways: classroom instruction on and off museum grounds, large capacity auditorium programming on and off museum grounds, and floor demonstrations. Educators will be expected to study curriculum and supplementary materials to gain proficiency in the sciences taught by the institution and improve upon existing content knowledge and teaching/presentation skills.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for teaching discovery labs, offsite programs, scout programs, camps, and overnights.
  • Responsible for delivering OSC curriculum and engaging students and guests in hands-on activities and demonstrations.
  • Applicants should be good communicators, have the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • This position requires individuals who are comfortable speaking in front of audiences of all sizes and delivering science instruction to guests of all ages.
  • Qualified applicants will demonstrate a willingness to learn.

Qualified candidates should either be degree seeking or hold a bachelors degree in education, science, or a related field.

  • Enthusiastic, friendly, outgoing; must love working with children and guests
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

The candidate should have experience in a museum or other informal education environment. Experience teaching informally or in a classroom is required. A background in public speaking and customer service is essential.

Summer Camp Coordinator

Part time position. The Coordinator of Summer Camp is responsible for the operations and implementation of OSC Summer Camp. Directly responsible for overseeing and maintaining quality control of all camp programming, and demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills. The Coordinator provides administrative and operational support to the Education Manager, with emphasis on daily operations and scheduling, to ensure quality control.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for daily coordinating of counselors, teacher assistants, and volunteers.
  • Responsible for supervising campers to and from daily activities, ensuring that all campers are accounted for at ALL times.
  • Responsible for check in and check-out procedures, including early care and/or late care.
  • Responsible for parent communication to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Responsible for implementing safety rules and compliance to the OSC camp behavior policy.
  • Able to apply problem solving and demonstrate good judgment to complete project tasks.
  • Able to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.

QUALIFIED CANDIDATES SHOULD HOLD A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN EDUCATION, SCIENCE, OR RELATED FIELD.  

PREFERRED SKILLS
The candidate should have experience in operations or management, teaching either informally or in a classroom, and demonstrate exemplary customer service skills.  Strong organizational skills and time management is desirable.

Part time position. Performs duties relating to the operational aspects of weekly summer camp sessions.

  • Responsible for supervising campers to and from daily activities, ensuring that all campers are accounted for at ALL times.
  • Responsible for check in and check out procedures, including early care and/or late care.
  • Responsible for actively engaging the campers to ensure an enjoyable experience.
  • Responsible for learning and leading camp activities and songs.
  • Responsible for implementing safety rules and compliance to the OSC camp behavior policy.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High School (Seniors preferred) or above.

PREFERRED SKILLS
Experience working with children and a background in science preferred

Summer Camp Instructors

Part time position. Qualified applicants will demonstrate enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Instructors will be expected to follow the curriculum provided and demonstrate proficiency in communicating science concepts to young audiences. Applicants should be good communicators, have the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.  

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for delivering OSC camp curriculum and engaging the campers in hands-on activities and demonstrations.
  • Responsible for supervising campers to and from daily activities, ensuring that all campers are accounted for at ALL times.

PREFERRED SKILLS
Must have experience working with children in elementary and middle school. Experience in an informal or formal teaching environment is preferred. Applicants should demonstrate enthusiasm for working with children, and commit to Monday-Friday for the duration of the camp season (June 14-August 20)

Facilitator

Part time position. Must have availability to work a minimum of 3 days. With weekend availability preferred.

Essential Job Functions:
Passionately embrace and communicate the mission of OSC ‘Inspire Science Learning for Life’ to science center guests.  This position requires individuals with exemplary guest service skills. Facilitate exhibit halls by answering questions, narrating on the microphone, leading activities and being interactive and engaging. This position will be expected to effectively communicate science concepts and topics through science demonstrations and activities.

EDUCATION: Two year degree in education, science, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE: The candidate should be comfortable approaching guests and speaking in front of a large audience.  Strong communication skills are required.  Hospitality or customer service experience is desirable.

REQUIRED SKILLS: A valid Florida driver’s license is required

PREFERRED SKILLS: Experience working in museums or in an informal education setting is preferred. Experience performing Improv and/or theater background is preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to stand for long periods and be able to lift 30 lbs.

 


 

Birthday Party Assistants

Part time position, weekends required. Assist the Host in facilitating the party including: disbursement of cake, ice cream and beverage, educational programming, science make and take project and general clean up. Have a full understanding of birthday party themes, and the educational component including the science content. Responsible for cleanliness of birthday rooms and the surrounding areas. Be able to work on a consistent basis and fulfill scheduling requirements. Completion of the 10th grade.

Part time position, weekends required. Host and facilitate the party including disbursement of cake, ice cream and beverage, educational programming, science make and take project and general clean up.  Have a full understanding of birthday party themes, and the educational component including the science content. Supervise assistants and volunteers working in Birthday Parties to include delegation of responsibilities to assist with the parties, and general customer service related to the birthday parties  Accountable for completion of the financial data sheet for each party and related paper work. Weekly inventory of paper products and additional supplies including a report (if needed) to the Birthday Coordinator. Be able to work on a consistent basis and fulfill scheduling requirements. Completion of the 10th grade, H.S. or Bachelors Degree preferred.

 

 

Preschool Teacher

Part time position. Responsible for the general supervision and management of a class of preschool (3 – 5 yr) children, planning and executing the Early Childhood education program in accordance with the goals, objectives and standards set forth by the Orlando Science Center Preschool in alliance with Early Childhood developmentally appropriate practices, FL Department of Children and Families and “Creative Curriculum” and Voluntary PreKindergarten (VPK). Instruct children (3 – 5 yr) in activities designed to promote social/emotional, physical and intellectual growth needed to be successful individuals related to their peer group, environment and community.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • A degree (Associate or above) in Child Development, Early Childhood, Pre-Kindergarten, Primary, or Elementary Education preferred. Exceptional Student Education, Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC – formally National CDA), Early Childhood Professional Certificate (ECPC or formally CDAE), certified National CDA or certified CDAE accepted.
  • FL Department of Children and Families Staff credential – VPK
  • Clear Level 2 Background screening.  May not be in classroom until this is established.

Preschool Assistant

Part Time Position. Responsible for assisting Preschool classroom teachers with general supervision and management of a class of preschool (3 – 5 yr) children. Assisting in the execution of the Early Childhood education program in accordance with the goals, objectives and standards set forth by the Orlando Science Center Preschool, along with Early Childhood developmentally appropriate practices, FL Department of Children and Families guidelines and “Creative Curriculum”. Support children (3 – 5 yr) in activities designed to promote social/emotional, physical and intellectual growth needed to be successful individuals related to their peer group, environment and community.

Essential Job Functions: Assist classroom teachers with daily scheduled lessons, units, themes, activities and projects. Work with children through interactions with activities and materials. Assist classroom teachers with organization and direction of activities/materials to promote physical, mental, social development such as games, art, music/movement and story telling. Arrange indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play, motor development and safety. Assist substitute classroom teachers with maintaining daily schedule that includes weekly lesson plans, activities and materials needed to fulfill goals and objectives.
