On Saturday, March 2, 2013, we celebrated the beginnings of a partnership between Orlando Science Center and National Geographic Cinema Ventures with the premiere of Meerkats 3D in the newly named Digital Adventure Theater: A National Geographic Experience!

A special thanks goes to the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens who brought their friends: a yellow-billed hornbill, an African millipede, hissing cockroaches, a hedgehog and a ball python.

This past Saturday, March 2, 2013 was Dr. Seuss's 109th birthday! We enjoyed a Seuss-tacular day of activities like learning about things that are too small to see with Horton Hears a Who, painting truffula trees with the Lorax, a storytime reading of Green Eggs and Ham, playing the One Fish, Two Fish fishing game, and face painting!

Orlando Science Center and National Geographic Partner on New Digital Theater

Premieres Meerkats 3D On Saturday, March 2

ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 22, 2013)—The Orlando Science Center will partner with National Geographic Cinema Ventures (NGCV) to rebrand their newly-renovated Digital Adventure Theater as the “Digital Adventure Theater, Presented by National Geographic.” The partnership will launch on Saturday, March 2 with the premiere of “Meerkats 3D.” With this branding partnership, the Science Center will gain special access to one of the world’s largest giant-screen film libraries that includes award-winning films in 2D and 3D digital formats.

As part of the partnership, National Geographic Cinema Ventures will produce or release two new titles each year, allowing the Science Center a first look at films in development and the opportunity to be among the first to release them. The Orlando Science Center will become a premiere location for NGCV films with exclusivity in Central Florida. NGCV will also provide marketing support to the theater.

Did you know that a large number of America’s bridges are aged 50 years or older and suffering from corrosion. This quiet attack on our nation’s infrastructure effects more than just our transportation.

For example, the 2006 Alaskan oil spill that let thousands of barrels of oil escape into the Pacific Ocean was caused by a dime-size leak. That leak was a product of corrosion that had affected more than 100 miles of pipeline.

Although these types of disasters may seem like freak accidents, the dangers of corrosion present a real threat in our day-to-day lives.

Today, the Orlando Science Center held the Inspire Science Breakfast. The event is an opportunity to celebrate the Science Center's role as a vital community resource that ignites the spark for tomorrow's leaders in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

The 2013 edition featured special guests that truly exemplify the Science Center's mission to inspire science learning for life. Dr. Morgan Cable, the first-ever winner of the Dr. Ying Competition, was present to speak to the power the Science Center has in inspiring future scientists, doctors and teachers.

The Orlando Science Center also paid tribute to a man that has given so much via knowledge, scientific discovery and philanthropy as Dr. Nelson Ying became the first-ever recipient of the President's Star Maker Award.

Guests had an opportunity to get involved by making a donation, pledging to volunteer and sharing the vision of the Science Center in our community. You, too, can make a difference just as they did. To start, explore the "Support' section of our website.

Even bad guys have to eat breakfast! 

On Saturday, Feb 16 the Star Wars® rogues gallery was in full force for our Bad Guy Breakfast members-only event. The Makaze Squad of the 501st Florida Garrison as well as the Mandalorian Mercs were on-site to greet members and participate in photo-ops. Light breakfast was provided and the peace was kept. Guests could also participate in sci-fi science demonstrations and coloring activities.
